Alternative Site Analysis
Indiana's established limestone production zone — the southern Indiana Salem Limestone Belt — has confirmed geology comparable to Allen County with a fraction of the residential exposure. US Aggregates operates across the Indiana limestone belt. The claim that Homestead Road is the only viable location has not been substantiated.
What Makes Homestead Road Uniquely Unsuitable
Schools Adjacent
Lafayette Meadows Elementary borders the site. Haverhill (2mi), Homestead HS (2.3mi), and Aboite Elementary (1.9mi) are all within 3 miles. No alternative Indiana limestone site has this combination.
Hospital Under Construction
IU Health Regional Campus — a multi-hundred-million-dollar healthcare investment — borders the SC commercial zone of the proposed site and is currently under construction. No comparable situation exists at any other Indiana limestone quarry location.
Eagle Marsh Adjacent
Eagle Marsh (831 acres) — one of the largest remaining interior wetlands in the Great Lakes basin — sits immediately adjacent. It is a critical bird migration corridor and regional flood control feature.
Urban Density
Allen County's 586 residents/sq mi puts ~62,400 people within 5 miles of this site. Alternative limestone counties average under 150 residents/sq mi — less than one-quarter the exposure.
