Interactive Impact Map
Select a radius to explore how many residents, schools, medical facilities, and neighborhoods fall within each screening distance of the proposed quarry site.
📍 Proposed quarry & industrial site boundary (~ acres), Homestead Road, Southwest Allen County. Floodplain deposits: IGWS. Flood zones: FEMA NFHL.
Population figures use area-weighted proportional allocation across 25 census block groups (Allen, Huntington, Whitley) intersecting this buffer. Buffer measured from confirmed site parcel boundary (~ acres). Source: US Census Bureau ACS 2023; US Aggregates / Heritage Group project filings. Full methodology →
"Nearly 2 miles away" Here's what those miles actually contain.
Heritage Group's representatives have described Lafayette Meadows Elementary as "nearly 2 miles away" — citing approximately 10,000 feet as a buffer between the proposed quarry and the school. [Heritage Group / US Aggregates] Measured from the center of the proposed initial pit to the center of the school, the straight-line distance is 9,756 feet (1.85 miles). But 6,028 feet of that distance — 62% — is Heritage Group's own quarry land. The true distance from the quarry site boundary to the school property line is just 2,845 feet (0.54 miles) — 2,785 feet of privately held land plus approximately 60 feet of Homestead Road. Here is what those feet contain.
- Quarry land — all phases (536 ac total) 6,028 ft 62% Combines the initial 60-ac pit, the full A3-SU approved planned quarry (330 ac), and future expansion area (206 ac). All Heritage Group / US Aggregates controlled land.
- Homestead Road ~60 ft <1% Road crossing the transect between the quarry rezoning boundary and the true distance segment.
- True distance — quarry boundary to school 2,785 ft 29% The actual gap between Heritage Group's quarry site and the school property line — ~2,845 feet (0.54 miles) including Homestead Road. Despite the developer's "nearly 2 miles" claim, 62% of that distance is their own quarry land. The true separation between the quarry and the school is less than half a mile.
- Lafayette Meadows school grounds 883 ft 9% From the north edge of the school parcel to the center of the school building (Allen County Assessor data).
Distances measured along a straight line from the centroid of the proposed initial pit polygon (lat 41.014°, lng −85.267°; source: Heritage Group / US Aggregates project filings) to the center of Lafayette Meadows Elementary School (lat 40.995°, lng −85.293°; Allen County Assessor). Homestead Road width estimated at ~60 ft. All measurements are approximate straight-line distances. Pit boundary crossing, quarry site boundary, and school parcel entry points derived by intersecting the transect line with each respective polygon.
