Thank You, Neighbors
12,842 petition signatures. 44 organizations in the coalition. 81 days from a handful of neighbors with a Change(.)org petition to a 4-0 denial at a packed public hearing. Hundreds of residents who drove to the Coliseum, waited hours to testify, and put their names on the record.
This community showed up. It mattered.
Thank you to every neighbor who knocked on doors, signed, shared, wrote a letter, emailed a commissioner, put up a yard sign, attended a meeting, testified on the record, drove around with a car magnet, talked to your neighbors, or simply kept paying attention. You are what made this work.
Thank you as well to the dozens of organizations across the region who formally declared their opposition. The coalition you built gave this movement institutional weight.
This effort had exceptional professional support. Scott Federoff served as our legal counsel, and Asher Agency supported our public outreach and awareness efforts. Their work was integral to this outcome.
And a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated. Your contributions funded the awareness campaign: the flyers, yard signs, and outreach that helped this effort reach across the region. This work could not have happened without your financial support.
What’s Next
The denial is a final zoning decision, but the land is not permanently protected.
The developer retains the right to appeal to an Allen County court within 30 days of May 26. If no appeal is filed, they must wait approximately one year before resubmitting the same or substantially similar special use variance application. The Plan Commission withdrawal was not a denial of the rezoning petition itself, which could theoretically be refiled, but without an approved special use variance, a rezoning alone is not sufficient to proceed.
We will monitor closely. If an appeal is filed or a new application is submitted, we will update this page and notify the community immediately. Stay engaged, stay connected, and stay ready.
The Little River Valley deserves permanent protection. And all Allen county citizens deserve better protections against untoward developments from even getting this far. We’re not done yet.
With deep gratitude,
No Quarry On Homestead Alliance
